1. What is Pilates?

Pilates (pronounced "puh-lah-teez") is a system of over 500 controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the total body. It is a balanced blend of strength and flexibility training that improves posture, reduces stress and creates long, lean muscles without bulking up.

Pilates works several muscle groups simultaneously through smooth, continuous motion, with a particular concentration on strengthening and stabilizing the core (the abdomen, back and pelvic girdle region, sometimes referred to as the "powerhouse").

The focus in Pilates is on quality of movement rather than quantity, which makes one feel invigorated rather than exhausted after a session. Pilates takes a balanced approach so that no muscle group is overworked and the body works as an efficient, holistic system in sport and daily activity.

2. What should I eat to lose weight?

This answer is the simple one you don’t want.  Unless you have a hormonal imbalance, you already know the answer.  Eat less than you are now, become aware of when, what, why you are eating!!  I always have people start with a food journal as boring as it may sound.  It’s the best thing to do when you’re not sure where to start.  The solution is still not simple, it is not an easy task to control your eating.  Eating is seldom as simple as “just eating.”  Stop talking about changing your eating habits, and do something different.  I do not support fad diets, balance is the key.

3. How long does it take to get results?

This is my favorite question, it depends on what you’re willing to do.  I ease most people into their bodies and change.  This means that you may not see an immediate difference.  Time is an amazing thing, even when you feel nothing is making a difference it surely is.  The most amazing changes have come from clients who I have been working with for years.  Their progression is real, rather than short-lived.  You must want a change to have one.

4. What is the best way to maintain body weight?

You must exercise and you must be aware of what you are putting in your mouth.  If you are motivated by statistics, people who diet and exercise are more successful at maintaining body weight compared to dieters alone.

5. How should I prepare for a training session?

Good night sleep, water, balanced breakfast (talk to me if your not sure about your breakfast), and cardio warm-up if possible.  Your time will be better spent if you are ready to work.
